Welcome to Conover
A peaceful community with upscale, desirable features
Incorporated in 1877, the city of Conover is located in the heart of Catawba County, 50 miles northwest of Charlotte. The town began with the building of a home for Francis Smyre and his bride, Ellen Miller. Together, they ran a restaurant and boarding house for many Southern Railway employees coming through town since it was adjacent to a junction point.
Over time, the city grew, but it still retains its friendly, small-town feel. It is now a walkable area with a progressive, revitalized downtown area. The architecture in this area ranges from traditional to contemporary and everything in between.
